Available in the latest Pitchshifter silent auction is the band's Line 6 Pod.  The band have owned and used this unit on all demos since they purchased MANY moons ago (I am talking double-digits here).  This vintage piece of gear has been in the band's hands for a long time, and has seen the penning of many a Pitchshifter tune.

This silent auction contains:
  • Pitchshifter's very own Line 6 Pod & power supply
  • Pitchshifter recall sheets for the sounds they used on this unit (one for bass, one for heavy "chug" rhythm guitar)
  • Signed letter of authenticity that this exact serial number was owned and used by Pitchshifter

Bidding in this auction will close on Monday, May 10th, 2010 at 6:00PM GMT (unless the auction is ended early).

Pitchshifter to Headline Wakefield Rock Festival: Charity Gig
Want to see Pitchshifter play live?  Taking a break from the new record, the band are set to headline  Saturday night of  Wakefield Rock Festival.

Says JS: "It's always a good feeling to do charity events, especially when the money is going to something as worthy as a hospice and it's about time we got back on stage--it's been a while.  With Senser and Inme on the bill, it looks like a great weekend event for a good cause."

Eat Bass
=============Auction Closed==============

Ever wanted to own one of Mark Clayden from Pitchshfter's bass guitars?  Well, now you can!

Available in the latest Pitchshifter silent auction is one of Mark's very own, road-used black Ibanez bass guitars.  This guitar has not been pampered in a recording studio all it's life, oh no, Mark has head-banged his way half across the World behind this beauty, and now it can be your very own.

If you're going to get a bass guitar, you might as well get your hands on one that's probably seen more action than you have (no offense).  This bass has flown half way around the World and back, kicking ass in sweaty clubs, rocking large festivals, and writing songs in murky dressing rooms for a living.  It's got mojo.  Put the shiny new, boring bass catalog down and place a bid on something with history...and balls!

This silent auction contains:
  • Mark Clayden of Pitchshifter's very own Ibanez Ergodyne EDB400 Bass Guitar
  • Signed letter of authenticity that this exact serial number was owned and played by Mark Clayden and by Pitchshifter

You can place a bid by sending us an email that includes: the words "Silent Auction" in the subject line, your bid amount, your full legal name, and your mailing address to music[at]psirecords.com

RATS
=============Auction Closed==============

Ever wondered how Pitchshifter get that trademark punk rock sound on the bass guitar?  A key piece of the puzzle is the ProCo RAT-2.  WTF is that?  It's the dirtiest, loudest distortion pedal for bass guitar on Mother Earth.

This silent auction contains:
  • Pitchshifter's very own ProCo RAT Distortion Pedal
  • Signed letter of authenticity confirming that this exact serial-numbered unit belonged to Mark Clayden and Pitchshifter
You can place a bid by sending us an email that includes: the words "Silent Auction" in the subject line, your bid amount, your full legal name, and your mailing address to music[at]psirecords.com

Music Review
Pitchshifter's Bass Guru talks to Music Scene.com.  An excerpt:

Music Review: "Recently, JS Clayden stated that Pitchshifter have gotten back together and is working on a new album. Do you feel that the band’s hiatus has helped you overcome creative blocks and in turn rejuvenate a hunger for more success?"

Mark Clayden (Bass): "We’re happy with the success we have already achieved; it’s all about the music and creative side of the band now. Lots of hard work has been going on behind closed doors across the UK and USA, and we will be posting information on our plans for 2010 at pitchshifter.com as soon as we are ready."

Genius in a Bottle
=============Auction Closed==============

The latest of the Pitchshifter online silent auctions is not a guitar, but it is the piece of musical equipment that defined the Pitchshifter sound, and also helped to usher in the "Rocktronica Era" of British music in the 90s.  It is the synthesizer, affectionately named "Genie" by the band, on which they created the lead line for the song "Genius" (along with many parts for other tracks on the "www.pitchshifter.com" album).

This is a physically synthesizer, not a virtual synth (i.e. it has a keyboard and a power supply and you can actually touch it--it won't work on your iPod).

When asked about the synth, JS said: "The Korg Prophecy Solo Synth was revolutionary in it's time.  It had a very forward-facing control surface in the form of a ribbon, and some great 303 sounds to go with it.

The sound for the song "Genius" came from cranking a 303 patch to the point of harmonic distortion and then playing the filter across the ribbon to keep the tone rising after the initial note-hit.

Although we have many fond memories of this synth, as with some of the previous guitar auctions, there's only so much equipment we can physically house in PSI Studios and still close the doors.  The time has come for Genie to take the long walk."

This silent auction contains:
  • Pitchshifter's very own Korg Prophecy (including original Pitchshifter-programmed "Genius" patch!)
  • 512 Memory Card
  • Original Korg Prohpecy Manual
  • Signed letter of authenticity confirming that the song "Genius," and the "www.pitchshifter.com" album, was written and performed on this exact machine
As in our prior auctions, you can bid by sending an email with the words "Silent Auction" in the subject line, also containing your bid amount, full legal name, and mailing address in the body of the email to: music [at] psirecords.com.

Bidding in this auction will close on February 22nd, 2010 unless the auction is ended early.

Happy bidding and good luck!

Tim Rayner
Pitchshifter Rhythm Guitarist, Tim Rayner, is currently undergoing treatment for B-Cell Lymphoma.  Tim was diagnosed with the condition while vacationing in Australia, where he is currently being treated.

Constant updates to the band from brother and Pitchshifter Lead Guitarist, Dan Rayner, reveal that Tim--who has not yet been allowed to return home to the UK because of his condition--has already undergone two-rounds of chemo-therapy.

Says Pitchshifter Vocalist, J.S. Clayden: "We are all floored by the news.  After so many years of two-sets of brothers playing together, Pitchshifter really is like one big family.  It affects us all when one member of that family is hurting.  We're all routing for Tim to get through this.  I look forward to getting this new album finished and looking over to my left to see Tim going nuts on stage.

Tim is a long way from home and is going through some tough times.  I'm sure that he would love to read some positive messages of encouragement from Pitchshifter fans on our message board to help him through this."

Lucky Number Seven
New album update:

Pitchshifter are 7 songs into demoing the new, as yet untitled, full-length album.

Says Pitch-bass guru, Mark Clayden: "It's been 7 years since our last full-length album.  I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for some new tunes.  Writing, recording and playing music is what we love.  I am itching to get this record done and get back to kicking ass on stage."

More news as it comes.

Jason Bowld Falls From The Sky
Pitchshifter drummer Jason Bowld announces his latest band: They Fell From The Sky featuring Hundred Reasons vocalist Colin Doran and Snuff bass player Lee Erinmez.

Says Jason: 'They Fell From The Sky is a mix of melody, punk and rock with larger than life songs--timeless anthems for 21st Century."

Gigs:
They Fell From The Sky  support Welsh ragga-metal boys, Skindred, on October 17th at Southampton University, and headline Music Live at the N.E.C. on November 6th.

Writing New Music
In their 20th year as a band (any of you starting to feel old yet reading this?) Pitchshifter are back in the studio writing music for a new album.

Says Mark Clayden, Bass: "I never thought that we'd be around for two decades, but I am glad that we have been.  To be able to connect with people all over the world, of all ages, through music, has been a mind-blowing experience.   We're steadily into the writing of the new record and we can't wait to get it done and get out there again."

Joining Pitchshifter in the writing phase is PMM guitarist and long-time friend of the band since the Pitchshifter European tour with Tura Satana, Brian Harrah.

Says JS Clayden, Vocals: "It's been refreshing to get back in the demo studio.  We're taking this record in a few places we haven't been before in terms of guitar work.  Brian Harrah (PMM/Tura Satana) is writing with me on guitar at The Manor Studios, and Jase (drums) is jamming at his place.  So far we are having a blast and kicking ass.

There are a few new moves in terms of song timing and vocals that have us all jazzed.  I guess you'll just have to wait and see what we came up with."

Updates to follow...

The Spiritual Significance of Music
Our glorious leader, J.S. Clayden, is a contributor to an online book entitled The Spiritual Significance of Music.

A short excerpt for your reading pleasure:  "...music as a reactive algorithm, “if X sequence of notes is played in Y progression, then Z emotion will be unlocked”.

Prong Shifter
Metal stalwarts Prong have asked Pitchshifter to remix the track "Worst of It," from their new album: "Power of the Damager."

Currently in progress, this remix is due for completion in January, 2009.

Says JS: "Prong was one of the bands that had an influence on Pitchsifter back in the day.  It's an honor to remix one of their tracks.  The Terry Date remixes were hugely influential in the Pitchshifter sound.  Their guitars are killer."

Keep it here for details.

Silent Auction: Original Paintings by JS Clayden Containing Initial Eye Logo Concepts
=============Auction Closed==============

The latest of the Pitchshifter online silent auctions is not musical instruments, nor merchandise, nor branded band memorabilia.  "Well, what the hell is it then?" you maybe asking.  This auction contains a number of original paintings, circa 1989, by Pitchshifter vocalist, JS Clayden.

How do paintings relate to Pitchshifter?  These paintings contain the very first iteration of the Pitchshifter Eye Logo, hand-crafted by the band's lead singer, right at the time of the groups inception.

When asked about the paintings, JS said: "The eye logo came out of a time in the band's youth - in Maggie Thatcher's Britain.  We were a handful of kids living on classic run-down housing estates.  Things seemed pretty hopeless at that time; listening to punk music seemed to take the edge off.

I managed to bluff my way into art school, which seemed liked a great escape from coal mining, xenophobia and wife-beating.  They told to me to 'paint what was going on in my life.'  At that time
it felt like video cameras and barbed wire were targeting our every move.  I wanted to show 'them' that we were watching them back-mingled in with other events in my life-and so I painted this 'sextych.'

I think that early material like these paintings was the genesis of this sentiment for the band, and for me, eventually making it into the real world as we started spray-painting a simplified version of the eye image on walls where the cameras could see them."

Although JS calls these paintings "intentionally primitive" (or "expressing a charming naivite" as the art world would coin it), the image of the six-eyelashed eye went on to become the band's symbol, embodying the awareness that Pitchshifter promulgated, while remaining an insider-sentiment for those around in the early years.

This silent auction contains:
  • Six original paintings (created in acrylic on hessian canvas, housed on custom-made wood frames)
  • A signed letter of authenticity
As in our prior auctions, you can bid by sending an email with the words "Silent Auction" in the subject line, also containing your bid amount, full legal name, and mailing address in the body of the email to: merch[at]psirecords.com.

Bidding in this auction will close on January 6th, 2009.

Axe of The Gods
Axe of The Gods Silent Auction now closed.  The auction posting was as follows:

In continuation of our rare Pitchshifter items Silent Auction Series, say hello to this sweet signed-by-the-band Ibanez RG550.

This item is a real RG550 (i.e. made in Japan circa the early 1990's, NOT one of the less desirable later-made USA models).  This guitar saw action on tours such as: Ozzfest, The Deftones, Stabbing Westward, Junkie XL, and Gravity Kills, in countries such as: Europe, UK, USA, Japan, Australia and more.  It also made a few appearances on radio, TV, video, and recording a few ditties with Machine and Dave Jerden on Pitchshifter studio albums...

This guitar is not in showroom condition. Why?  Because it's been kicking ass on stage and in the studio for a decade.  (It's actually a miracle it has been preserved, many other 'Shifter axes got smashed up in on-stage antics.)  Because of its pedigree, this guitar has its own unique patina and genuine distressed finish (not some fake aging, scratched up by an intern in a custom guitar shop).

In short, this guitar has seen more of the World than you probably have, (including rocking 65,000 people with Black Sabbath) and lived to tell the tale.

What The Signed Pitchshifter Ibanez RG500 Guitar Auction Includes:

    * Ibanez RG500, signed by the band
    * Letter of authenticity, signed by the band
    * Pitchshifter T-Shirt
    * Pitchshifter stickers

As in our prior auctions, you can bid by sending an email with your bid amount, full name, address and telephone number to merch[at]psirecords.com.

Bidding in this auction will close on November 13th.

For full details of the auction rules, item delivery and payment process, please email merch[at]psirecords.com.  Happy bidding and good luck!

X fest X'ed
The X Fest has been, well, X'ed.  Pitchshifter received word today that the X Fest is being cancelled by the promoters.

Although this decision has nothing to do with Pitchshifter, or any of the other bands on the multi-day line up, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Says 'Shifter frontman J.S.: "We received official notice by fax today that the event will no longer be happening.  The band are bummed that we can't round out the year with a kick ass gig on home ground, but wish all of our fans a happy and safe Christmas."

At this time there are no new live dates for Pitchshifter scheduled.  Sorry guys!

Motorhead?
Moving into the bizarree . . .

Pitchshifter's longtime tour manager Gary Weight of Lincoln, U.K. has pulled a rock and roll coup.  He's convinced heavy metal legends Motorhead to sponsor the Under 10's football team he's managing.

Although Pitchshifter are not directly involved in this news item, the band are so impressed with this former member of the Pitchshifter family's form, that they thought it deserved an honorable mention.

According to the news article on the BBC website, the North Hykeham team listen to Motorhead in the dressing room and run onto the pitch to the sound of the band's biggest hit, "Ace Of Spades."

Says Mark: "Hats off to Mr. Weight. We look forward to the West Bloxwich Napalm Death under 10's in the near future."

Underground Uprising
The implosion of The Lost Playground Festival at Alexandra Palace in September left a void in the Pitchshifter calendar and the London scene. It looked as though this void would not be filled and 2006 would slip away with only the March tour and Bulldog bash to show for the UK.

Then along came the Underground Uprising Festival. WTF is that we hear you ask!? Well, it's only a mini one day indoor fetival on FRIDAY 15 DECEMBER 2006 at the London Astoria with the marvelous mechanical Pitchshifter as the headline act!

Politics prevent us from releasing the full line up at this juncture, but safe to say it's a 5 band bill of UK acts you'll love who are ready to rock it.

Keep an eye on the Underground Uprising Festival site and these news pages for more details.

Underground Uprising Postponement
It is with sadness that we have to announce that Pitchshifter are not able to appear at the Underground Uprising Festival.  This has led to a postponement of the entire event.  PSI Records and Mean Fiddler are currently exploring options to reschedule the event in 2007.

The following statement has been issued by Pitchshifter:

"We would like to apologize to all of our fans and the fans of the support bands, for the postponement of the Underground Uprising show.  Followers of the band will know that Pitchshifter rarely cancels a gig (and is truly loathed to do so), but personal events outside of the band's control have made it impossible for Pitchshifter to appear at this event.

Out of respect for our band member's privacy in our personal lives, and in no way as a sign of disrespect to our fan base, we are not at liberty to discuss the exact nature of this event at this time.

We would like to thank you all for your patience and continuing support in this difficult time.  We look forward to seeing you all out on the road again in happier times.

Peace - Pitchshifter."

They Came, They Saw, They Menace
The Pitchshifter-laced (and PSI Records housed) multi-headed noise hydra that is This Is Menace, hit the UK's leading alternative festival 'Download Festival' with a fire not seen since last summer in LA County. If you missed the spectacle, here’s what Download's  official site had to say:

This Is Menace pull in a huge crowd of both hardened fans and curious onlookers and certainly don’t disappoint either, drawing on their usual multitude of figures from the UK underground. Paul McCallion, Jeff Walker, Karl Middleton, Justin Hill and Mikee Goodman are amongst the many that put in an appearance, but it’s left up to Hundred Reasons man Colin Doran to put the final icing on the metal laced cake with a storming run through of ‘Dead Man’.

'Shifter bass man Mark Clayden said: "It was awesome to play the UK’s best metal freak show. We are at work on album two right now, THE SCENE IS DEAD will be recorded before the end of the year. We have some fucking amazing singers on board. . ."

Incobo
Pitchshifter did not play their scheduled concert in Turin at the Colonia Sonora Festival on Saturday, June 24th 2006.

Why? There was a sudden storm and the stage area was not sufficiently protected. This lead to the Italian PA company's equipment being filled with water and rendering it unsafe and unusable in the Italian promoter & PA company's opinions.

Says J.S. "We really, really hate to ever cancel a show.  We were ready, willing and able to play, and standing right there by the stage. It's so frustrating. Without wishing to point any fingers, in can only be inexperience from the promoters that would allow an event to take place with insufficient protection against rain. The mixing desk wasn't even in a tent. Just out in the open with a tarpaulin over it - craziness.

I would like to apologize to any fans who made the trip. Although it was completely outside of the band's control  and we were ready to play for you, we never like to see fans inconvenienced by cancelled shows. A lot of planning goes into each event from our end and we know fans go through the same process. I have no idea when or if we will get to play in Turin again, but I wanted to say thanks to everyone who was cool about it and sorry your night was ruined. Peace - J.S."
